July 19-22, 2007 - Homer, AK

Well, I've spent the last few days here in Homer, AK.  Anyone who believes I've been resting must not be paying attention too well over the course of this journey!  I'll have to do a revised Journey Report when I have some time down the road but for now I'll post the pics from the last few days around Homer and during a “Wonder-where-that-road-goes” jaunt I embarked on:

I had no idea these critters were around here until one walked in front of my bike.  Of course, I followed it (tromping the Strom through all kinds of crap to do so!):

After returning from the “East End Road” area, I stopped to buy stamps at a Post Office on the outside of Homer in an area called Fritz Creek. After putting the sidestand down in front of the Post Office that also doubles as a General Store, I met Rowan, a born and raised local who is also a rider:

Hey, does your PO have antlers on it??

Rowan was an absolutely delightful guy who had just returned last night from his “month-on, 2 weeks off” job in nowhereville with an oil company.  He said he had just fired up his bike and asked if I wanted to join him for a ride, so I did.  After a quick stop by his place, we took off on what felt like every back road in the 25 mile Homer vicinity!  Some roads didn't even look like roads, more like goat trails.  I was lucky to have kept the rubber side down on a few of them!  (Always beware when following a local you just met with knobby tires!)

Rowan's driveway, where I almost lost the Strom when a bird the size of a dog dashed in front of me:

Rowan's cabin (outhouse not visible)... all are common in this area:

Over to Aaron's house, Rowan's childhood friend:

Does your office offer this view?

Does your office have this?

Thanks for the tour, Rowan!!!

Volcano “Reboubt”, one of two visible volcanoes in the area:

The famous Homer “Spit”... where all the tourist flock:

Went to dinner with several friends I met at the hostel but none of us had the special:

Took some evening pics of the area:

God and Harley t-shirt... um... I'll pass on any comments:

... but will say this has been my favorite t-shirt I've seen in AK:

On another note, I should now be caught up returning emails, so if you have not received a reply it's best to resend it.
