August 1, 2007 - 2 Chicks, 2 Wheels - Haines Junction, YT to Haines, AK

The journey of “2 Chicks, 2 Wheels” has been so remarkable it is too difficult to put into words while we are on the road what our experience has been over the past 6 days.  It's not only the unforgettable sights we're seeing but also the countless people we're meeting along the way.  Well, it's more like they're meeting us.  For whatever reason, the 2 of us together along with the “Alaska Bound” sign and the “AGIRL” license plate seem to be a magnet of attention.  The stories we have just from the interactions with people is simply priceless.  At some point when time allows we'll include some of these in the detailed Journey Reports.  For now, here's a brief one....

Spent last night in a little cabin....

....the first time I've ever slept at a, um, gas station:

Before leaving Haines Junction, we stopped by an unusual looking church, Our Lady of The Way:

Here's the scoop on it:

Off on the Haines Highway towards Haines, AK.  We thought Kobi's mojo on the spectacular weather was over since we departed in drizzling rain, but that ended less 10 minutes after we left Haines Junction!  It was a very overcast and cloudy day but we never saw rain after the initial 10 minutes.  I think Kobi took this pic so she could prove she actually rode in rain:

Here are a whole bunch of photos of our day.  The detailed Journey Report will be posted later.  Suffice to say these 2 chicks on 2 wheels are having a BLAST!!!

The typical British Columbia & Yukon “Rest Area”:

...and the entrance drive:

See the baby black bear?

This little guy was fast!

  Hi, JT!

Thankfully, the passengers were all loading back on their ship, leaving a much quieter Haines to explore:

They weren't kidding about the eagle thing, they were everywhere.  Kobi saw one swoop right in front of her and grab a fish.  We're not sure if it dropped the fish because Kobi screamed or not.  Here's one that had a more peaceful fishing experience:

Hey, Kobi, what's that over there??

Holy crap!!  It's a GRIZZLY!!

Another angle (yes, I rode around to get a better view):

We got to see him swim...

...then once he got out on the the side:

No gas stations tonight:
