August 2, 2007 - 2 Chicks, 2 Wheels - Haines, AK to Watson Lake, YT

Once again the day was chocked full of adventure.  A detailed Journey Report will be posted later, but here are the photos of the day and a brief report.

Today started very early (too early for 2 chicks who are not morning risers!) so that we could catch the Haines, AK to Skagway, AK ferry on the “Alaska Marine Highway System.”  We were told to arrive at 6:15am sharp and departure would be at 7:15am.

On the fly photo of the boarding...

The “coordination” of the ferry personnel to line up all the vehicles, especially the monster RVs, was nothing short of organized chaos.  That 7:15 departure wasn't until 8:15 either so we were jipped an extra hour of sleeping!

I've been on quite a few ferris in the US and Canada.  My experience has been motorcycles load first and subsequently deboard first.

.... if you've ever heard about the lawn chairs that people use to sleep on instead of renting one of the indoor cabins, here they are....

Indoor lounging area...

...and a shot inside the boat for those who have never seen the inside hallway of a cruise ship but always wondered....

Finally, we're off!

Lots of waterfalls on the scenic one hour ride to Skagway...

Approaching Skagway and the cruise ships...

...as well as a spout of water!!

A humpback whale:

How would you like this job?:

On the fly photo unloading from the ferry - - not sure why a wheelie draws so much attention from cruise ship passengers (just kidding):

Cruise ship passengers running amuck in the streets:

I didn't refuel last night so the bike would be easier to maneuver on the ferry and planned to get petrol once we were in Skagway.  There is only 1 gas station in Skagway and we didn't see it until we were outside of town... and the Strom was on fumes.  Thanks to another Arizona “Snowbird”, one who thought the “2 Chicks, 2 Wheels” tour was “AWESOME!!”, we got a bit of insurance to make it back to town:

Refueled and back on the road!  Here are our photos leaving Skagway and heading back to Canada:

In case you wanted to know what the US entry looked like, Kobi took this pic over her shoulder as we passed by:

Approaching customs for Canada:

Back in the Yukon and rolling along...

Tagish Cutoff:

Joined the Alaska Highway....

..and took a whole lot of photos during the journey to Watson Lake, YT:

Sometimes, you gotta make the best of road construction delay... (Hey, Rhea and Faro!!)

... so after meeting Rhea and her pup Faro, we decided to let them take a break and we took over:

Once the pilot car arrived...

If you're going to be stuck on a bridge waiting for construction equipment, this isn't a bad view, huh?

A pretty bridge...

...unless you're a passenger who isn't fond of metal grates:

Kobi's got a keen eye for spotting bears!
