August 10, 2007 - Prince George, BC to Squamish, BC

I left Prince George this morning with my friend Dave this morning.  He was taking a long weekend down to Vancouver and I was en route to Squamish to meet a friend.  When we left it was low 40's and I had my heated jacket and gloves on.  Much like Kobi did a few days ago, Dave did not consider the morning windchill factor, especially when riding at a “spirited” pace, so we pulled over soon after departing so he too could don his heated gear:

The “spirited” pace was not conducive to taking photos so I have none to share of our ride other than when we stopped to refuel and I noticed a highway sign with my name on it, a first indeed:

I said goodbye to Dave when we met the junction of Highway 99.  I continued on towards Squamish and in doing so had to pass through a First Nation (the Canada version of an Indian reservation), which happened to be quite twisty:

I passed through Whistler, BC and the lovely views....

Highway 99 is also called the “Sea to Sky Highway” though it should be called the “Orange Cone to Orange Cone Highway” given the mega road construction that the area is experiencing as it prepares to host the 2010 Winter Olympics.  I can't say that I necessarily enjoyed the ride once I was past Whistler since I'm not a fan of traffic, snarling faces, land yacht SUV and RVs, or roads that have no alternate routes around.    Anyway, I made it to Squamish and here was the route for the geographically challenged:

End of day's GPS:

My current total of 11,741 miles for this Alaska journey is well above my projected 11,000 mile final total.  I mentioned to Grand Webmaster before leaving that I couldn't possibly exceed the projected miles by that much since there are only two roads going to Alaska and one main road there.  The response I got back on the phone if I recall correctly was silence followed by laughing.  I'm surprised there hasn't been a “Webmaster's Note” about this to this point.

Webmaster Note:  I can't find a smilie for "I Told You So!"  So, just for the record:  I TOLD YOU SO!  I also told Bob to make sure to get plenty of rest and to eat his Wheaties because he was going to need the energy to keep up with her!
