Journey report to follow – until then, here are the photos (which I just know the Matriarch will surely enjoy!). Left Vernal, UT this morning and visited Dinosaur National Monument in Dinosaur, CO for yet another stamp. (If you have no idea what this “Stamp” thing is I'm referring to then click: HERE):
... then south on the “Dinosaur Diamonds Scenic Byway”...
... arriving Fruita, CO area so I could spend time exploring the wonders of the Colorado National Monument. It's a great place to SEIZE THE JOURNEY!:
The Colorado National Monument covers 34 square miles. The 22 mile road that traverses through the grand country near Fruita, CO to just outside the city of Grand Junction is called “Rim Rock Drive” - my, oh my, it is a motorcyclists' delight of wicked twisties, on perfect tarmac no less (my experience is all federally maintained roads are always in top condition)! Here is a map of the road:
Upon leaving the quiet and serene National Park Service land, I was abruptly greeted with city hell:
As I sat in 97 degree heat at the stoplight inhaling diesel fumes and listening to the roar of noise pollution, I visualized the cool, clean, quiet Alaska experience. My first big shock trying to reintegrate back since I've avoided all interstates and cities like the plague. It really is kinda of like a plague. Accidentally hit the “Reset All” button on my GPS this morning, which wiped out the totals for the entire Alaska journey. I'll just have to add last night's total (below) with today's to get a grand total... which ironically eclipsed the 14,000 mile mark today:
