On June 20th I left (fled?) Phoenix to begin my “ALASKA 2007” journey. Today is August 20th and after
nearly 15,000 miles (ok, 14,858 miles to be exact), I pulled into the same garage where I had departed
exactly two months prior. The journey has now ended for the V-Strom but, of course, not for
me. I'll spend a brief time here in AZ regrouping, reloading, sorting through gear, (trying not to
completely fry while doing so!), then I'll fly back to my other home in Nashville, TN and resume the
“East Coast 2007” jaunt (which was put
on pause a week before my departure for the Great White North). Not exactly sure where I'll be
heading, but ultimately I hope to spend time (and miles) in the glory of New England's blazing fall
foliage. For someone who has spent over 28,000 miles in the saddle of a motorcycle since the end
of April (four months), I feel absolutely great.
It is challenging to post details while on the road and sometimes the best I can do is launch a few photos
and comments; it is also difficult to reply to every email that floods my inbox, many containing similar
questions (about the gear I use, the motorcycle & equipment, specifics about locations I visited,
etc). Since I will be doing a “master edit” for all the Journey Reports regarding my Alaska
experience, if you have questions you'd like for me to address, now would be the time to submit them so I can
possibly include the answers in the final editing.
That said, intrusive and personal questions will go unanswered since, as stated on the beginning page
of “Alaska 2007”, this website is not about me; so please keep questions specific to the journey itself and not me.
I have been overwhelmed by the unexpected popularity of the website, but more specifically, from the
feedback from folks who have found inspiration to seize their own journey.
The support and encouragement I have received has been equally as humbling and words can't express my gratitude
as the journey continues...
Oh, and the main reason for leaving the “ALASKA BOUND” sign on the bike is because I'm GOING BACK!!
Important note: After January 1, 2008 a Passport will be required for ALL travel to Canada
from the US. Given the current US backlog in processing passport applications, it might be prudent to
submit your application now if you have any thoughts about taking your motorcycle, RV, bicycle, horse,
etc., and riding to Alaska from the "Lower 48". For steps to obtain a Passport and for official
information from the US Dept of State click:

The combined GPS totals (from when I accidentally erased the total in UT + the last leg to Phoenix) = 14,858 miles
And her is a map showing the overall route that was taken:
