AZ-NM-TX-OK-AR-TN-AL-TN… oh what a 2 day, 2200 mile ride it’s been!
Two days ago (Thurs), I left Phoenix as planned for my East Coast 2007 journey. A tank of bad gas in nowhereville New Mexico en route to Roswell (aliens??) nearly disabled the FJR. In fact, it was right here that I knew there was a big problem:
The bike would not accelerate from 1st gear unless the RPM’s were 6k+ rpms. To those who don’t quite understand, it felt like trying to take off in 5th gear. I was saved by the “Oklahoma Credit Card” aka gas siphon I carry and finished a 1,086 mile day just south of Oklahoma City. I thought I had flushed out all the gas gremlins so the next morning (yesterday) I headed for a pair National Park stamps in Chickasaw, OK then Hot Springs, AR, where I had planned to camp overnight.
While running twisties (more…)
After my last posting I’ve received a few emails asking where folks can find a motorcycle safety or skill enhancement class. I would first start with the Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF), a national organization dedicated to rider training. The Basic and Experienced Rider class info can be found on the MSF website:
