June 2, 2007 - Barber Vintage Motorsports Museum - Birmingham, AL

Today's ride can be summed up it a few words... dang, I'm thankful for modern motorcycles!  This was not a difficult conclusion to reach after perusing approximately 500 vintage bikes, many of which were older than me, some twice as old.

Down and back from Music City (Nashville) to Barber Motorsports Park and Motorcycle Museum in Birmingham, AL, with my good friend (and Grand Webmaster Extraordinare), Scott.  The 400 miles was all slab so we could maximize time in the museum and be back to Nashville before dark, otherwise, we would have taken every crooked country backroad for the journey.

What made today even more special is that I ate at the Waffle House (WH) not once but *twice* - hehehhe!    I'm taking full advantage of the WH availability since there will be an extended WH drought when I head to the Great White North soon.

Breakfast stop:

Late lunch stop:

Hey, they even have a Biker's Nite at this one:

While eating my waffle, I witnessed Bubba trying to back up his truck and canoe rig into a parking space just outside the front window despite there being plenty of pull though spaces in front of him.  My absolute only guess is that he wanted to keep an eye on the canoe while he ate.    Having any thought about this sight I witnessed violated a personal cognitive rule of mine: Never apply logic to illogical behavior or thinking!

If you live in the white section on this map you might not even know about the Waffle House:

I've got some news for the people who followed me on the "F-A-R Journey" back in February and were dismayed that the "Boobie Bungalo", a go-go establishment located very near the TN/AL line and right off exit #6 of I-65, was no longer in business.  (As reported: HERE)  It seems the owner has persevered the areas fundamental religious persecution and has reopened.  As a TN native and part-time resident I am glad to see progress is being made so now the heat I take from my West Coast friends about the South being "unnervingly shallow" mayeth subsideth.  I had to stop and get proof of the re-opening; besides how many of you have a photo of your bike beside the Boobie Bungalow sign?:

Oh, yeah, about the 500+ bikes at Barber... well, I took a lot of photos (to the tune of 200+) and, um, ah, I'm not sure when I'm going to have a moment to post them given I am in the midst of transitioning from this East Coast ride to the Alaska ride.  Until I get miy pics posted, I'd say go enjoy Scott's over on his personal website: HERE.

I will post one photo in particular now, which happens to be of me and 2 unusual sculptures just outside the museum.  The comment this elicits from the Matriarch is going to be priceless!
