Cape Cod, MA to Harvard, MA
September 24, 2007

Before leaving my campsite today on Cape Cod (Nickerson State Park to be exact), I took a long hike.  While beside the lake I came upon a rather large bird.  A friend of mine who likes birds recently asked me if I'd take photos of any unusual birds I came across in my travels, so here's your bird ML.  I'll say that the feathered one wasn't the least bit concerned with my presence.  I walked around the rock (thus the different angles), made a whooping sound, skipped a rock across the water; none of these shenanigans dazed the bird.

Though I have no idea what kind of bird this is, I'm thinking it did the “Free Spirit Salute” when I walked by:

... See, don't you see a resemblance:

(For those who missed it, those statues were outside the Barber Motorcycle Museum (journey report at This Link), which I visited this past spring.  I had no idea what they were suppose to represent, so I called it the “Free Spirit Salute” and have since then been known to, well, salute!)

Not everyone defines “Sport-Touring motorcycle” the same....

This was the only sign I could find that said something about Cape Cod on it – plus, I found that structure in the background to be rather interesting and wondered what the story behind it might be:

I've been all over the country and I've only seen these “Thickly Settled” signs in Massachusetts.  Seems like something a pilgrim might say, huh?  Oddly, each of the 3 locations I've seen these signs have been in rural areas where the only traffic was, um, me!

Another day, another National Park Passport Stamp:

Near the stamp:

Well, Massachusetts wins for the absolute biggest friggin' road signs.  I'm thinking if someone has trouble reading their signs then they shouldn't be driving—dang they are  HUGE. This was on a two lane road near a residential area:

Stayed at the ”Freindly Crossways Hostel” in Harvard, MA. Way cool place:

The owners also make honey (award winning honey actually) and I got the complete low-down on the sweet stuff:

End of day GPS:

Tomorrow I'll be heading up into New Hampshire and Vermont to see how the leaves are looking.  Most likely will be camping again for the next few nights unless the weather turns bad.  So far I've been incredibly lucky on this “Fall Foliage Frolic” with simply glorious weather!

Thanks again for all the support out there!
